Just want you to know it might not be your machine.

Just for the record, I love the enhancements on 8.1. My machine has sped up considerably and my love-hate relationship with Windows 8 Hyper-V is now more on the love side. Now if they could only replace the Windows 8 User Interface to Windows 7, I’d rave about it.

Once I converted to WIndows 8.1, my WIFI card went bye-bye. I even tried deleting and updating the drivers. It’s not that machine actually needs the WIFI–but I was using WIFI as a bridged network connection for Hyper-V. My basic vhd set-up uses an Internal Switch (not connected to my network adaptor) to keep my domain off the Internet–so I’m free to play. But I  also need another VIrtual Switch to connect to the internet to update Windows and download software.

After ordering two WIFI cards from NewEgg–neither of which worked on 8.1. (The second actually caused an operating system abort when installed–not to mention the slow shipping from China.)

I ordered a “USB 3.0 to Gigabit Adaptor” from TigerDirect about $27 with shipping. (It arrived next day. Yes I know it’s a network card not a WIFI–I just needed another connection besides my Main One.)

(Probably I could have done it all with my main connection, I just don’t like Hyper-V Virtual Switch to get its hands on my main connection to the machine. I’m Network-Challenged!)

It took about 10 minutes to configure as an External Connection–after loading the drivers.

Just want to reiterate, it may not be your machine–it very well may be Windows 8.1 Drivers and just because a driver will run with Windows 8.0, there is no guarantee it will run with 8.1.
