Just curious if anyone has any knowledge on the ‘Background Activity’ status ‘Computing Ranking’. My Search Service is working fine but I feel there may be some issue with ‘propagation’ but I am not see anything in the logs that suggest this. In the past I have know this status to always be ‘None’. I have found little info on the subject and what I have found suggests an Index Reset. Current Version of Farm is 14.0.6117.5002 (not that this matters for this issue). Topology is :
WFE 1: Query
WFE 2: Query (just added no NLB yet.. Waiting on F5 purchase)
APP1: Crawl
APP2: Crawl
APP3: Crawl and Query Failover
Any suggestion would be great. I’ve yet to perform an Index Reset in my SharePoint life; what should I expect if I follow this path? Also I am posting this on the ‘Community’ but if this type of post belongs elsewhere, please let me know.
I have performed an Index Reset before. You would expect that no search results will be provided until the index has been rebuilt again by way of a full crawl. So this is not so much of an issue if there is not a large amount of data to be crawled, but if so then I would be looking to schedule the reset Out of Hours.
