Heard a lot of rumours when SharePoint 2013 was in beta, but it’s gone kind of quiet. Does anyone know what the state of play is with the Education services ?
I think the plan was that it was meant to be an LMS to replace the MS Learning Gateway (and probably the SLK), but in all honesty I think it never materialised. As our very own Trevor said “Note: This was a feature in beta that was cut prior to RTM, however the bits remain in RTM.“
I also remember tweeting one day a while back saying that I was going to have a play with it and a certain MVP said “Don’t hold your breath”.Â
My guess is that this will be rolled into Office 365 sooner than on-premise SharePoint.
To be honest, Mark, I had never heard of it… so I went searching. Â Found an article from Trevor posted in November: Â https://sharepoint.nauplius.net/2012/11/sharepoint-2013-for-education/
and one from Bjorn Furkunap:Â http://blog.furuknap.net/sharepoint-education-features-detail
And not much else.
So, I’m curious, what was it designed to? Â It looks like the idea was to use SharePoint as an LMS… but not sure.
I could see internal uses for it. Â Not all training that we provide internally needs to be in our Learning Management System or via Elluminate. Â Could be a viable alternative.
