Ok – So you want to demonstrate the full awesome power of SharePoint 2013 Enterprise Server to say 15-20 influential people with your company.
It is not possible for you purchase user CAL’s at this stage, you do however have two servers that can be utilised for the WFE and database. How would you go about building a proof of concept to demonstrate key features on what would essentially be a live domain. How do you navigate strict licensing?
I dont really want to invite the users to a test network, they do not care. They just want to use it and then hopefully buy it.
Any advice on this, greatly appreciated.

This is not at all an authoritative answer, but for what it’s worth…
My understanding has always been that the Eval licenses are fine to use for just that: evaluations. This would include proofs of concept, testing compatibility, seeing what a product does, etc. Since the licenses time out after 30 days (I think that’s the limit – not sure), I don’t think there should be much concern.
As mentioned, that’s only my understanding and may be incorrect, but I’ve never worried about downloading an eval copy for temporary use. And I think the phrase, “Gauging software performance in existing or new hardware, software, operating system or network environments” (I added the emphasis there) gives one leeway to install to new dev/test environments.

So I decided to contact TechNet customer service regarding this question. I received a link to “Evaluation scenarios allowed with TechNet” (http://technet.microsoft.com/subscriptions/ms772427.aspx#usage) explaining in which scenarios evaluation software may be used.
This article mentions that the followig scenarios are allowed(amongst others):
- Compatibility – Gauging software performance in existing or new hardware, software, operating system or network environments.
- Environment – Determining software settings while software is being evaluated by end users in existing infrastructure.
This brings up a few questions:
- What constitutes “Infrastructure?”
- I´m allowed to evaluate this product in existing hardware, software, operating system, network environments and existing infrastructure, how is this not production?
