SharePoint Architect looks very good word but what exactly skills needed to be real Architect?
In short, SharePoint architect should have strong concepts for followings,
– SharePoint (Configuration, Maintenance, backup, recovery and bit of development)
– SQL Server
– IIS &Â Windows Security
– Active Directory
SharePoint Architect’s main responsibility is to develop a long lasting super performance product.
Other than SharePoint working Knowledge, He also know about the Windows Server, SQL Server, Active Directory. Because Architect have to give you a complete solution which include how it will be done, how much resources required( in terms of hardware/software) and Farm topology etc….
Its easy from outside the world but its not easy. 🙂
Naimish’s response is right on. Â An Architect is someone who has had exposure/experience in most, if not all, areas of SharePoint. Â The Architect’s responsibility is to collect requirements, design a system that fits the requirements, and communicate those requirements so the customer, developers, and administrators can understand it.
The Architect does not always actually do the work.
Really nice question Dipak, I myself going toward the role of an Architect but I am still not sure what it takes to be an Architect.
As per my understanding, Architect isn’t something we can achieve by reading books, passing certification or from some degree, it comes with an experience, and when I say experience, I mean having exposure to very challenging and complex stuffs. Also an architect really needs to have a knowledge of all the aspects of SharePoint (Admin, Development, Design, etc.).
An architect will decide whether SharePoint is the solution or not, which approach to use, the designing of the system, server configuration, etc. etc.
That’s my understanding and I may be wrong, but I am hoping the current architect people or the person who knows the right answer will definitely help us by sharing his/her views on your question.
