Hi All,
Could you tell which SP Microsoft Certifications you found useful to have? How was your story with getting the certificates? What could be a good choice to start with while being a beginner in Sharepoint? Do you think that it can make sense to do certificate for SP 2010 or rather focus on 2013 as most of the companies will move there at some point (if not yet)?

This is a fantastic question. I think there’s 2 potential benefits to getting certifications …
1. It forces you to learn a subject area in-depth.
2. It will look good for employers and may land you that job!
I personally never take exams (mainly due to time), but foruntately I have had no need to. I contracted for years working for lots of different companies in the UK. I never once struggled to find work. The UK has massive demand for SharePoint people though and I know it’s not the same everywhere, so competition is high. I am also the type of person that is always learning, (as my job has always dictated it and even more so now as a I run my own ISV). If you are in a very comfortable job that doesn’t require new skills, then I would say certs are definitely something to consider as this will force you to explore new areas of tech!
It also depends on experience. If you are a beginner then it really helps you get that next job. If you are highly experienced, then not so much. At the end of the day, if you have time they can do no harm, but in some situations they aren’t a requirement…
