Could you tell which SP Microsoft Certifications you found useful to have? How was your story with getting the certificates? What could be a good choice to start with while being a beginner in Sharepoint? Do you think that it can make sense to do certificate for SP 2010 or rather focus on 2013 as most of the companies will move there at some point (if not yet)?

It’s always good to have certification in your technology. For certification, you have to decide whether you want to go to the Administration or Development side. I would suggest you that start with SharePoint 2010 and have good knowledge about the technology. Once, you are comfortable with SharePoint 2010. You can jump on SharePoint 2013.
I had attended boot camp of SharePoint and I like technology and platform. And I decided to go for Developer side as I was a developer of .Net, C# and Silverligh.
