I’m trying to create a calculated site column in SharePoint online but when I save the column it then deletes the formula so when I add this column in my list I get an error that my formula is empty. I’ve deleted the column even in the recycling bin and created another one but error persists.

Sometimes SharePoint may accept a formula for Calculated columns but cannot resolve it correctly which results into an empty value.
It would help if you can include additional info including Column types of the items you’ve used in the formula.
