We are planning a migration for SharePoint 2013 (On Premises) to SharePoint Online using the Microsoft native tool. Could anyone help me by answering the following?
- How do we do a site migration using the native Migration Tool?
- The site contains Master Page, CSS, Stylesheet etc, so how do I move those?
Thanks in advance
Tat
SharePoint Migration Tool has basic transfer capabilities on a per document library basis. It is intended for “content” migration rather than a “site” migration tool.Â
You may want to check other options if your have more advanced requirements especially for highly customized sites.Â
I would suggest you to use Content Matrix Console.
SharePoint migration is a process of taking all the content you have in your existing file share or SharePoint and moving it either to a new or existing environment. In this article, we are migrating a site which has Site Column, Content Type, List with Lookup field and Metadata field, Custom View, Document Library with versioning enabled, List associated with Designer Workflow, and Pages with web parts. Also, we will look how to use the filters in the Metalogix Content Matrix tool to filter a site/list/library and rename the site/list/library during migration from On-Premise SharePoint 2013 to SharePoint Online using Metalogix Content Matrix Tool.
Steps Of SharePoint 2013 to Sharepoint Online Migration
Below are the steps to be followed to migrate a site from On-Premise to SharePoint Online. We would also look into the configuration required to promote a site to a site collection during migration.
• Connect SharePoint 2013 and SharePoint Online Sites to the tool
• Prerequisite Migration Step
• Migration Configuration
Microsoft Ignite SharePoint Migration Tool helps in simplify moving your content from your on-premises SharePoint environment but I would like to add up this tool is not at all good for batch migration, Moreover, the user mapping option in this tool doesn’t consider any additional metadata to fill these gaps. I would recommend you to migrate Sharepoint 2013 to Sharepoint Online can be done through other third-party products.
Exactly this. The new native migration tool is meant to transfer files. It’s not a migration tool to migrate your sites like for like to another SharePoint instance. It’s quite limited in it’s capability.
