Hello,
I am starting a SharePoint User Group here at my company. Right now I have 12 Power Users that have accepted the invitation. I am VERY excited about getting this started and hopefully spreading some SharePoint excitement here and User Adoption! Has anyone else started a User Group or currently running or involved in one? Any tips, topics, advise you can share with me?
Thank you in advance for your help and support!!

Hi Mark,
I wanted to update you on how my meeting went yesterday. I’ve given a lot of presentations and training classes but in those cases the attendees are usually required to be there for one reason or another, but in this case my attendees WANTED to be there, it was so refreshing! This first meeting started with introductions and logistics about how we want to use this time 1x a month, Tips and Tricks, showcasing a technique, discussing pain points, success stories lunch and learns for our colleagues. Everyone was contributing and had great ideas, people were already talking about what they were going to do in-between now and the next meeting, it was so productive! I have been wanting to start a SPUG for a long time and this companies inexperience in SharePoint is the perfect opportunity (I came into this company 14 months ago as their first SharePoint Administrator, so a ton of opportunities). Any additional question you may have for me please let me know and I look forward to reading more about SP User Groups here. Thank you again for your interest!
Great, that sounds wonderful, can’t wait to hear what you have up your sleeve! I will for sure provide an update after my meeting!
Hi Jake,
Thank you for your idea’s and sharing what has worked for you, it is very helpful! Any kind of organized SharePoint environment is new to this company and I just finished their SP2013 to SharePoint 365 and now I am trying to gather the troops and get some excitement, empowerment and at least out of the box collaboration happening. The best part of my job is being the Evangelist for SharePoint. Thanks again!!
Joan – I hope this goes really well and you’ve given me an idea of somethign we can do on here to facilitate this kind of inititiative. Please let me know how it goes.
Knowing that you currently have only power users you can target the content to them. Our SPUG had many levels, we would break up the hour into segments to target each. I also found success in engaging the end users to share their experiences in a free flowing conversations. We would try to pair experienced users with newbies to share their tips and tricks with different topics. SharePoint is collaborative and the users tend to be engaged. Good luck!
