I am using SharePoint 2016 on-prem. About Me > Interests – should we expect a notification in the Newsfeed and/or email for items posted using keyword that I have set as an Interest in my profile? We know it works with hashtags, but should it work the same with keywords in Interests, Expertise, etc.?
I assume you would get feeds related to your interests shown up in the newsfeed section of your mysite.

Unless they are tags, you will not receive mail. So in this case you shouldn’t be receiving a mail notification.
The help text below the Interests field in the About Me section is — “Share personal and business related interests. We will help you keep in touch with activities related to these interests through events in your newsfeed.” So exactly what does MS mean if not via newsfeed?
The out of the box help text says – “Share personal and business related interests. We will help you keep in touch with activities related to these interests through events in your newsfeed.” . If notification isn’t via newsfeed/email – then how do I what does MS mean?
