According to this post you cannot synchronize a SP Discussion Board and Access
I have Office 365 and have tried to link to a SharePoint Discussion Board, which, seemingly confirms this.
Has anyone experienced this? I believe I could setup the “lists” (or tables) myself, but would rather not. I’d like to know the relationships they’ve setup for them and suppose I could try to export them as Excel to see if it sheds light – but all this seems like a lot of effort if there’s a better way.

I’ve just recently had a user that would like to open SharePoint list via Access and have confirmed that Discussion board/app is not listed as an option.
Likely, it doesn’t follow a typical database table which is why it is not available as an option.
