I usually end up using “Embed Code”.
It seems to strip my javascript. This hurts since we’ve been friends for years.

There’s a lot of technology out there, lots of releases, lots of changes., projects that span multiple releases. It’s hard to know which RTFM to read.
I’m not intimidated by you-even though I obviously don’t have your brilliance–I’ll keep asking questions and risk looking dumb. “friend?”
With SP2013 it might be a better idea to use ScriptEditorWebPart.
As for the script stripping, check out web app policies/settings regrading enabling scriptable content. The second option is to use ContentLink and store html/js content separately.
Finally, “since we have been friends” story just points to the lack of skills. RTFM is the better friend.
