I wonder if anyone can offer any insights into my very strange SharePoint problem that is causing a lot of pain and damage.

We set up SharePoint 2010 five years ago, and from the start we had this issue: most people have Firstname Lastname show up as their display name within SharePoint, but maybe 10% have domainname/username.

Now something happened over the weekend, and those who have domainname/username can log into SharePoint, while those who have Firstname Lastname cannot.

Here I am not referring to the login ID, which is always username for both groups. I am only referring to the display name within SharePoint.

Any clues on this bizarre problem?
