These days i started learning on dotnet.. because it was like a pre-requisite for sharepoint development.
So i have learned some part of asp.net but don’t know when to jump into sharepoint.
I was thinking what are the topic i need to know in dotnet to start doing some server side development in Sharepoint.
replies?
Thanks 🙂
No worries.
I do understand your situation. Let me think about it a little bit, I will post some updates later.
Thanks avishnyakov.. i understood your point and thanks for sharing the “must read”
your reply got me thinking what am i doing in sharepoint.. 😀
I am a fresher, so I don’t have experience with production code and commercial products..
i have some experience in working with web technologies but not with core dotnet.
I started with scratch.. done with basic administration and end user, now moving towards some customizations.
that’s why wanted to know what are the “must have” concepts in dotnet..
now i believe i will have to read 2 3 books on sharepoint to build some grounds..
thanks for your reply..
Well, it is nice to have a few years with the production code and commercial products on top of c# and asp.net. next step might be SharePoint server side development.
On the other hand, it seems to be a significant shift from server side to client side so JvaScript/jQuery/TypeScript and other modern web stack might be consider as an option.
Finally, it is better to have experience with end-user/administrator perspective of the SharePoint. Lots of things are related to the end user settings, some kind of administration so it is sorta pointless to be just a “SharePoint developer” – kind of end user and administration experience is a must have thing.
Also, consider my favorite list of the “must read” book for the server side and SharePoint dev at goodreads –Â http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/4755986-anton?shelf=sharepoint-must-be-read&sort=position&user_id=4755986
I spent lots of time for my MCT (Microsoft Certified Trainer) certification a few years ago, and I found these book with that particular order is a very nice roadmap to become excellent server side guru.Â
Let me know how it sounds to you and if there is anything else I may help you with.
Cheers!
