As you know Microsoft Confirms Public Website Removal from SharePoint Online. What do you think? Do you agree with Microsoft’s decision to remove Public Website feature from its SharePoint Online service? Share your thought.
The product for public websites was very poor but I feel bad about all of the non-profits that were pushed onto using it (including some I made sites for). For a non-profit, having to rebuild their website again and learn how to manage it will be some work. However the product itself wasn’t remarkable, I guess I am torn…
I think if it became widely known that for a single Office 365 subscription you had the vast SharePoint tools to offer on a public facing website a lot of Web development companies would be in trouble… But I think what Microsoft is most concerned about is how difficult it would be to upgrade a website on 365 since most websites are highly customized.

I do agree removing the Public Website feature from the SharePoint Online service, as I never believed SharePoint was the right place to create your public website.
However, as Microsoft offered this as a solution in their service, I think they could do more to help customers migrate their public websites. Maybe they will in the future, but who knows.
