When would you use a plain Team Site without enabling Publishing Infrastructure?

Would this be a case when you just want to store documents?

It seems in programming every time something doesn’t work I look for the site collection and site publishing features.

Thanks I missed that. Where I work sites are pretty much finalized and the publishing features are needed.

Publishing prevents you from exporting the site as a template. It generally isn’t a good idea to enable unless you specifically need Publishing.
