Go on let’s have em, what laptops are you all running and do you recommend for SP 2013 development ? The MBP a contender (surely not)!… Is anyone surviving on 16gb ?
UPDATE! Can you also add your laptop and configuration to this list : (User “Add to List”). http://list.ly/list/73V-sharepoint-2013-laptops. If someone has the same one, just vote it up.
I couldn’t bring myself to buy a PC either! I tried (not very hard, admittedly) and couldn’t find a reason to do it.
I’ve thought about a MB Air but storage and screen size were concerns for me. Would be lighter though (obvs).
I’m using my MacBook Pro (2011 edition) with 16GB Ram. Running VMWare with Windows 7 Ultimate. Seems to do the job OK.
Keeping looking at getting a PC but can’t seem to bring myself to do it. Was considering the new Haswell MacBook Airs, but not sure about the performance running VM’s?
Hi Mark
Yup – I’m running on an MBP 15in Late2012 with 16G. I’ve got say, it works like a dream. From a technical perspective, I’m more a solutions architect/designer than a developer but so far the silver slab has done everything I’ve asked of it. I use Parallels to run my SharePoint VM in 8GB and I also run another (Windows 8) VM to run SP Designer (2010 and 2013), though not concurrently with my SP Server VM.
For more complex scenarios, I run up a couple or more Azure VMs to simulate client environments. Been working like this for about 3 years now (apart from the Azure piece which has been going for about 7 months old) and so far, so good.
Cheers
John
I use a Lenovo T420s with 16GB Ram and a second SSD for my virtual machines.
A very interesting option is Cloudshare.com. It costs less than Amazon EC2 and Windows Azure.
Wow … what a lot of responses!
