Go on let’s have em, what laptops are you all running and do you recommend for SP 2013 development ? The MBP a contender (surely not)!… Is anyone surviving on 16gb ?
UPDATE! Can you also add your laptop and configuration to this list : (User “Add to List”). http://list.ly/list/73V-sharepoint-2013-laptops. If someone has the same one, just vote it up.
I have a fully loaded Asus G750JX sitting at my local UPS ready for pickup. My HP Envy 15 – a machine which has served me well – is starting to die on me, so it was time for an upgrade.
I’ve tricked out the ASUS to the max: 4th Gen Intel Haswell Core i7-4700HQ, 2.4~3.4GHz; 32Gb RAM; 750GB Seagate Momentus XT 7200RPM 32MB, 8GB SSD Hybrid Drive; 256G Samsung 840 Pro Series Solid State Drive 2.5″; etc.
I’ve realized with my all-SSD Envy 15 that there’s really no need to put everything on the fast drives. For instance, all my photos and music, which primarily just sit there. With the 256Gb SSD, I should have plenty of room for my 2007/2010/2013 VMs plus active files. Inactive stuff and programs will go on the Seagate.
It is actually much better than the old Thinkpad keyboards once you get used to it. Also due to the change in keyboard style they now offer a backlit keyboard for low light situations, once you have had one it is hard to go back.
HP 8570W i7 (4-core + HT), 32gb ram, 500gb ssd for VMs
I’m feeling alone with my Alienware M18x R2 with 32GB of RAM. It’s pretty heavy though.
SSD for OS and SSD for VMs. Next crazy step is RAID SSD for VMs to have more space.
Man !!!! – totally different specs of what I’m use to – We do our Enterprise Java Dev on 4GB windows 7 machines no multiple VM no nada – just Eclipse.
ayyayaiiiiii caramba
Can somebody give me a ‘typical’ setup for a ‘all-in-one’ dev machine for SP 2013
VS2012 Ultimate is already a given + TFS
thanks in advance
Wow … what a lot of responses!
