Go on let’s have em, what laptops are you all running and do you recommend for SP 2013 development ? The MBP a contender (surely not)!… Is anyone surviving on 16gb ?
UPDATE! Can you also add your laptop and configuration to this list : (User “Add to List”). http://list.ly/list/73V-sharepoint-2013-laptops. If someone has the same one, just vote it up.
Lenovo W530 with i7 processor. 500 GB and 750 GB 7200 RPM HDDs. 32 GB RAM. Running Windows 8.1. OS is on one drive, VMs are on the other.
I’ve been running this for about two months solid now and get great performance. I run a four-server virtual farm for demos, dev work, etc. The domain controller is set to dynamic memory and usually runs at less than 1 GB RAM. SQL runs on a static 8 just fine. Have OWA/WAC server set to a static 4. SharePoint server is running at a static 10.
I agree with everyone else that SSDs are the way to go if you can get them.
I’m using the monster 17 inch HP EliteBook 8770w. At the time of purchase, last July, it was the only HP laptop I could find with 32GB or RAM and dual SSDs. It’s much heavier and thicker than I would like. Even the power adapter weighs more than an iPad by itself. However, it’s hard to argue with the performance for SharePoint 2013 local VMs. Also, I rather enjoy the large screen and keyboard which almost make up for the bulk.
Toshiba – Satellite 17.3″ Laptop Model: P875-S7102
I upgraded the Ram to 32Gb(max Supported) and add 512 GB SSD.
i am more than happy with it.
I got an Asus N53S i7 with 24GB RAM and a single 500GB Samsung Evo SSD, but space is already a problem if I run 2 VMs on the SSD
