Hi folks,
I am new to sharepoint. I have successfully set up a site and 3 lists but I a cannot get around the following problem.
List 1 is a listing of accounts
List 2 is a listing of projects. Each project ties to an account so I created lookup column in list 2 that pulls data from List 1).
List 3 (tasks) also has a relationship with List 2 (and by context list 1). For each task I create I would like to select the associated combination of account/project as determined in List 2. I am trying to set up a column in this 3rd list that has a lookup column made up of the calculated combination of the project in list 2 and its associated account (linked into List 2 from list 1). Unfortunately, when I try to create a calculated column in list 2 I am not give the choice to select the account. It looks like because account is a look-up field in list 2, it is not possible to create at calculated field of one text and one look-up field in the list. Is there a workaround for this?.
Hi George – I have done something similar with Linked Data Sources. I’m not sure which version of SharePoint you’re using, but within SP2010 you can create these in Designer to join one or more lists. Here is a link to a resource “how-to” from Microsoft: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-designer-help/add-a-linked-data-source-HA010355748.aspx
