At the end of Tim Ferro’s SPChat a few of us started to discuss the future of SharePoint Development and even though we were only discussing a minor part of it, the debate was lively and good fun. So we were thinking – why not use the “Main Room” Chat on SPCOM to have a 60 minute debate about how we all see the future of SP Development.
As with TweetJam’s we’d have some set questions to discuss so that it has some structure.
My question is, if we organised this a date and time would you come along? If so, what questions / topics would you like to see discussed?
In a poll that’s currently rolling on SPCOM it looks like ‘Full Trust Solutions’ aren’t as dominant as I thought, so the tides are definitely changing! (ignore the spelling mistake!) :
Please leave your ideas for suggested questions in the comments..
I must agree, these are great points. The Questions should be asked nonetheless as well. In my experience with Microsoft, they are putting millions upon millions of Marketing, Architectural, physical, etc. dollars to shift into the cloud. If you talk to their sales people, Azure hit over $1billion last year, Office 365 has had several billion dollar years already. Again, MS is fully invested. There isn’t any doubt that things are changing. So my questions …
- Will Microsoft ignore the fact that SharePoint On-premise is still very strong? I know they keep saying they will solve everything with the cloud, but I dont think it is possible for the bigger companies. Can MS ignore them?
- It seems Autohosted is gone … is this right?
- MS is changing and delivering new functionality on a weekly basis as I learned at the Office365 Summit here in Houston last week. Will thing stabilize eventually? Code today doesn’t always seem to work later. Even some of their demos in Github dont work anymore.
- What are the frameworks people are using for SharePoint-hosted and Provider-hosted?
I have many other questions, but I think they are more collaborative questions where I want to share and exchange ideas on how to solve issues. I am doing both Full-Trust, SharePoint-hosted and Provider-hosted solutions.
